A Springville man is accused of forging a check and cashing it with an Iowa City-based credit union.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, 57-year-old Scott Workman of the Carlton manufactured housing community on Highway 151 stole a check from the victim and forged it as payable to himself for $1,100. The victim did not write the check and does not know Workman.

Workman allegedly cashed the check at the Green State Credit Union branch on Edgewood Road in Cedar Rapids on the afternoon of October 1st, 2019. Police say Workman used his own driver’s license when cashing the check and obtaining $1,100 in cash.

Workman was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2pm Tuesday and charged with Forgery and 3rd Degree Theft. If convicted of both charges, he faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
