A woman has been taken into custody after allegedly attacking the girlfriend of her ex.
According to reports, police were dispatched to the 2300 block of Jessup Circle in Iowa City on January 14th at around 12:45pm. 21-year-old Devian Ashanti Hughes, address unknown, has a child with the man who lives at the residence.
The man’s current girlfriend was at the residence when Hughes arrived. Hughes allegedly entered the residence, became enraged at the woman and attacked her without provocation. She was struck on her right ear, causing it to bleed.
A warrant was issued for Hughes’ arrest, and she was booked into the Johnson County Jail Monday afternoon and charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. Hughes was also reportedly on probation on a willful injury causing bodily injury charge. If convicted on the assault charge, she could be sentenced to up to a year in jail.
