A Cedar Rapids man is accused of holding a woman against her will and forcing her to watch the miniseries “Roots.”

The Gazette reports that 52-year-old Robert Lee Noye allegedly made the woman sit with him at a residence in the 700 block of Second Avenue Southwest to watch the nine-hour miniseries. Arrest reports say that Noye did it so that the woman “could better understand her racism.”

The victim told police that when she tried to move, Noye told her to remain seated and watch the movie with him, or he would kill her and spread her body parts across Interstate 380 on the way to Chicago.

Noye was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree harassment and false imprisonment, and could be sentenced to up to three years in prison if convicted.
