A Coralville man allegedly called in for trying to break into parked cars was reportedly found with drugs and stolen alcohol, leading to a number of charges.

Police say they responded to the area of Highway 6 and Boyrum Street just after Midnight Tuesday on reports of a man attempting to enter parked vehicles. They located a man who matched a description in the area, and when they approached him, he dropped his backpack and ran.

The man, later identified as 21-year-old Adam Vanourney of 13th Avenue, was instructed to stop by two different officers but he continued to flee. He reportedly fell near the intersection of Highway 6 and Boyrum Street and was apprehended.

During a search incident to arrest, Vanourney allegedly was found with a switchblade knife in his waistband. The backpack allegedly contained stolen bottles of alcohol from HyVee, a small plastic bag with meth, a straw and a pipe that Vanourney reportedly said was used for meth.

He was arrested and initially charged with Carrying Weapons, Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd offense, Interference with Official Acts and possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, Vanourney could be sentenced to over four years in prison.
