Marengo man accused of turning two night hotel stay into weeks-long stay on another person’s credit card

A Marengo Iowa man is accused of taking advantage of a person who allowed him to use his credit card to stay at a Coralville hotel for a few nights and turning it into a weeks-long stay.

According to police, the victim allowed 50-year-old James Edwards of Hilton Street in Marengo to use his MasterCard for two night’s stay at the Home2 Suites on Coral Ridge Avenue on January 7^th. Edwards allegedly used the card to charge nearly $2000 and stay at the hotel until February 11^th.

The victim said two night’s stay came to about $170 and the additional $1818.70 charged was not authorized.

Edwards was arrested and faces charges of unauthorized use of a credit card over $1500, a class D felony punishable by a prison term of up to two years if convicted.
