A Marengo Iowa man is accused of taking advantage of a person who allowed him to use his credit card to stay at a Coralville hotel for a few nights and turning it into a weeks-long stay.

According to police, the victim allowed 50-year-old James Edwards of Hilton Street in Marengo to use his MasterCard for two night’s stay at the Home2 Suites on Coral Ridge Avenue on January 7th. Edwards allegedly used the card to charge nearly $2000 and stay at the hotel until February 11th.

The victim said two night’s stay came to about $170 and the additional $1818.70 charged was not authorized.

Edwards was arrested and faces charges of unauthorized use of a credit card over $1500, a class D felony punishable by a prison term of up to two years if convicted.
