A fight over food escalated to the point that an Iowa City man allegedly ripped the braids out of his half-sister’s hair.

Iowa City Police were called to a residence on Wayne Avenue just before 7:45 Saturday morning for a domestic assault. 25-year-old Antoine Bryant and his half-sister, who both live at the residence, met with arriving officers.  An investigation determined that Bryant became upset when his half-sister began eating his food, leading to the two yelling at each other and Bryant’s half-sister pushing him out of her face. Bryant allegedly responded by ripping two braids out of his half-sister’s head, causing redness and pain.

Bryant was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
