A North Liberty man allegedly threatened his neighbor before and after burglarizing his residence on Friday.

North Liberty Police say a resident of the Holiday Lodge manufactured community called to report a burglary just before 11pm Friday night. 32-year-old Joseph Martin, who also lives at Holiday Lodge, allegedly forced his way into the residence and took property belonging to the victim. Police say Martin fled after he was identified by a witness, and was captured a short time later using the description given by that witness.

The victim told police Martin had called and threatened to kill him earlier in the day. Police say they also observed threatening text messages from Martin that were sent to the victim.

Martin also allegedly made multiple statements to arresting officers about killing the victim once he was released from jail.

Martin is charged with 2nd Degree Burglary and 1st Degree Harassment. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.
