A sign at the North Liberty corner of Highway 965 and Forevergreen Road that for years has said a new University of Iowa Health Care facility would be coming soon may actually now be true.

The University Hospitals and Clinics have announced plans to build a 300,000 square foot building that includes a high-level emergency treatment center, urgent care services, outpatient clinics, diagnostic services, surgical suites and acute inpatient beds. The new facility, which is called the first phase of development on the 60-acre site, is being proposed to reduce congestion at the main hospital and make it easier for patients to access care.

A report from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics CEO Suresh Gunasekaran says that occupancy levels at the main UIHC is stressing the facility, and the North Liberty location would greatly help improve patient wait times and care.
