Iowa City Police are investigating a Tuesday night shooting…and they believe a gunshot victim who checked into a Cedar Rapids hospital was involved.
The ICPD responded to a shots fired report on the 800 block of Brown Street just after 10:15pm.
According to an ICPD news release, responding officers arrived and found an unoccupied vehicle in the intersection of Governor and Brown streets with a door open and a flat tire. Officers located several handgun shell casings in the immediate area of the vehicle.
An adult male suffering from gunshot wounds was located in the area. The man was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries. The man told police he had been driving the vehicle and was shot by an unidentified man who had been a passenger in the vehicle and fled the area.
At approximately midnight, an adult male arrived at Unity Point/St. Luke’s hospital in Cedar Rapids suffering from a non life-threatening gunshot wound. The ICPD, with the assistance of the Cedar Rapids Police Department, believe the man was involved in the shooting at Governor and Brown Streets.
Iowa City Police believe this is an isolated event and the incident remains under investigation.
