A Cedar Rapids man was taken into custody after an alleged assault on his pregnant wife while he was driving near Iowa City Monday night.

According to arrest reports, 33-year-old Branly Nkosi of Auburn Drive Southwest and the woman were found in a vehicle parked on the shoulder of southbound 218 at about the 95 mile marker in Iowa City just after 7pm. Upon contact, the woman in question reportedly had a very swollen hand and fingers. She stated that she and Nkosi were having an argument while he was driving; during that time, Nkosi is alleged to have grabbed her fingers and started squeezing, causing pain.

The woman reported that Nkosi allegedly told her to “be careful” while inflicting pain and was all over the interstate, crossing lane lines. The woman’s six-month-old son was in the back seat, and she stated that she’s pregnant with Nkosi’s child. The woman noted that Nkosi legally adopted the six-month-old.

Nkosi has been charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury first offense, and child endangerment. If convicted on the charges, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
