An Iowa City woman is due to appear in court next week after an incident earlier this month where she allegedly was seen on surveillance video stealing from her employer.

According to police, they were called to the Casey’s on Broadway Street on January 17th in reference to an employee theft from the register two days earlier. The manager and assistant manager provided video from the date in question, allegedly showing 26-year-old Tonisha Brown of Benton Drive taking money from the register.

Police spoke with Brown, who denied taking the money, but reportedly confirmed it was her on the video.

Brown was charged with 5th degree theft, a simple misdemeanor, and is to make her initial court appearance on the morning of February 5th. She could be sentenced to up to 30 days in jail if convicted.
