An Iowa City man faces several charges that started with him getting his car wedged into a snowbank.
According to police, 30-year-old transient Dylan Scott was in the 700 block of 14th Avenue in Coralville Monday at 9:36pm when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle and got stuck in a snowbank. Scott is accused of leaving the scene on foot when police arrived, ignoring officers’ commands to stop.
Scott was located several blocks away, hiding in a residential backyard.
Scott allegedly had the odor of ingested alcohol on his person, with bloodshot watery eyes. Police say Scott admitted to operating the vehicle and still had the keys to the vehicle in his pocket.
A search of Scott allegedly turned up two baggies of marijuana totaling 16 grams, and Aprazolam tablets in 1 milligram and 2 milligram doses. He also reportedly was carrying two cellphones.
A check of his driving record showed his status as suspended since June of 2018 for nonpayment of fines. He was also wanted after failing to return to Hope House since November 17th.
Scott was booked into the Johnson County Jail early Tuesday and charged with Interference with Official Acts, Failure to Maintain Control, Driving while Suspended, Operating under the Influence 2nd Offense, Voluntary Absence or Escape, 3rd or subsequent possession of a controlled substance, marijuana possession, and failure to affix drug tax stamp. If convicted on all charges, Scott could be sentenced to over 15 years in prison.
