Iowa City police have arrested two women who they say aroused their suspicion when they were found in a car near an armed robbery.
According to arrest reports, police were in the 700 block of Giblin Sunday at approximately 5:16pm looking for two male suspects who had committed an armed robbery moments earlier and had fled on foot.
A silver Mazda Tribute was parked in front of the residence and occupied by 5 women. One of them was identified as 18-year-old Jayla Williams of Jaro Way in North Liberty.
The vehicle allegedly had an odor of narcotics, and Williams reportedly admitted to smoking and possessing marijuana. Two small baggies were located on Williams’ person.
Another passenger, identified as 18-year-old Andrea Argueta of Metric Road in Iowa City, reportedly admitted to possession of marijuana, with Argueta removing a foil pack containing several marijuana cigarettes that she had concealed down the front of her pants.
No information was given about the other three women in the vehicle other than that one of them lived at the residence in question.
Williams and Argueta were taken into custody and charged with 1st offense marijuana possession, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year.
