A second suspect has been arrested for her alleged part in a scheme to steal approximately $1,900 in merchandise from the Iowa City Menards.

39-year-old Mackenzie Kile of Coralville was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after noon Tuesday. Iowa City Police say Kile, 51-year-old Terry Lee Griffin of Sandusky Drive and two additional accomplices participated in the theft on February 19th of last year. They say Kile, Griffin and the others entered the store between 7 and 8pm that night. Surveillance video shows them loading up items in multiple carts throughout the store, then concealing their carts with merchandise in the back of the store and leaving without making a purchase.

Later that night at approximately 11:50, after Menard’s had already closed, a group of subjects are seen entering the back of the store and are inside for about four minutes before returning with the concealed carts, which contained approximately $1,900 in merchandise.

Kile and Griffin are each charged with 3rd Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Theft, both Class D felonies punishable by prison terms not exceeding five years each.

Kile faces two additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and one of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after a search of her 13th Street apartment last June turned up a baggie of marijuana, a marijuana edible sticker, drug paraphernalia, and a bag containing a crystal substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.
