A Coralville woman was taken into custody for allegedly charging at a person and striking them in the face while officers were talking to the parties involved in an alleged fight.

According to police, they were dispatched to the 700 block of 19th Avenue Sunday just before 3:30pm on reports of a fight. Upon arrival, they say that 20-year-old Jasimne Martinez, whose address matches the location, was acting belligerent.

While officers were attempting to talk to the parties involved in the fight, Martinez is accused of going between the officers and charging at the victim, striking her in the face. She allegedly ignored commands to stay back.

Martinez was taken into custody and charged with assault and interference with official acts, both simple misdemeanors. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to 60 days in jail.
