Sliding his car into a ditch during a North Liberty traffic stop only added to police suspicions that a Cedar Rapids man was driving while drunk early Sunday morning. Those suspicions were confirmed, and the man was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.

North Liberty Police were following 25-year-old Tyrelle Harris of Jacolyn Drive Southwest on West Penn Street near Interstate 380 around 12:30 Sunday morning when he was clocked doing 60 miles per hour in a 45 mile-per-hour zone. He was also allegedly weaving within his lane.

A traffic stop was initiated near Penn and Herky Streets, but Harris failed to maintain control as he was pulling over and his Buick Lacrosse went into the ditch.

Police say Harris admitted to drinking, had slurred speech and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. His blood alcohol content was measured at .176 on a Datamaster test.

Harris was arrested and charged with OWI and Driving While Barred.
