Icy conditions are being blamed for a semi accident near West Branch that left one person dead.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, just after midnight Saturday morning a Freightliner left the roadway to the right on westbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 255, just east of the West Branch exit. The semi was found on its side in the north ditch, and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The State Patrol notes the Interstate was covered in ice, and the semi likely lost traction.
