An Iowa City man has been arrested for his alleged part in a scheme that robbed Menard’s of about $1900 in merchandise.
According to police, 51-year-old Terry Lee Griffin of Sandusky Drive and three additional accomplices participated in the theft on February 19th of last year. They say Griffin and the other entered the store between 7 and 8pm. Surveillance video shows them loading up items in multiple carts throughout the store. The video shows each of the four concealing their cart with merchandise in the back of the store and leaving without making a purchase.
Later that night at approximately 11:50, after Menard’s had already closed, a group of subjects enter the back of the store, and are inside for about four minutes before returning with the concealed carts, containing approximately $1900 in merchandise.
Griffin and his accomplices are accused of aiding in the commission of the burglary and theft,
An arrest warrant was issued on Thursday; Griffin was located and arrested. He’s been charged with 3rd degree burglary and 2nd degree theft, both Class D felonies punishable by prison terms not exceeding five years each.
