A Cedar Rapids dubbed “The Buttplug Bandit” has been taken into custody on warrants stemming from an alleged theft in Iowa City.
According to police, 31-year-old Brandon Lee of 6th Avenue Southeast was identified by staff at the Jobsite Bar as the person involved in the incident on November 16th. Staff at the bar were able to provide surveillance video to police, which allegedly shows Lee reaching into a slightly-open window in a parked car in their lot at about 3pm that day and removing a purse.
The video shows Lee returning the purse a short time later, but items were reportedly missing from the returned bag.
Police investigation discovered additional surveillance video, showing that Lee purchased adult items at Romantix using a card that he had just stolen from the locked vehicle. Several Jobsite patrons have contacted KCJJ to report that they now refer to Lee as “The Buttplug Bandit”.
A warrant was issued for Lee’s arrest on January 2nd, and he was arrested on Thursday, charged with 5th degree theft and unauthorized use of a credit card under $1500. If convicted on the charges, Lee could be sentenced to over two years in prison.
