Cedar Rapids man arrested for alleged UIHC theft

A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested on warrants relating to an alleged summer theft of wallets from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

According to arrest reports, 38-year-old Jereme Williams of Glass Road Northeast entered a private unoccupied office at the hospital at about 12:30pm on August 5th, and allegedly stole wallets from two purses containing credit cards, gift cards, drivers licenses and medical insurance cards.

Williams then allegedly went to Coral Ridge Mall and used the stolen cards at Best Buy, Target, and the Finish Line.

A subsequent investigation discovered that one victim lost $650 in cash and gift cards, and had nearly the same amount in fraudulent credit card charges. The second victim lost a $50 gift card but incurred over $3850 in fraudulent card charges.

Williams is also accused of using a stolen credit card to run up over $1500 in fraudulent charges on July 26th at Walmart, Casey’s, Footlocker and Von Maur. Video surveillance allegedly shows Williams making the transactions.

Williams was taken into custody Wednesday morning and was charged with two counts of second degree theft, one count of 3rd degree theft, one count of 3rd degree burglary, one count of unauthorized use of a credit card under $1000 and one count of unauthorized use of credit cards under $10,000. If convicted on all charges, Williams could be sentenced to up to 29 years in prison.
