A former prison escapee is back behind bars again, this time after absconding from Hope House last month.

According to arrest records, 23-year-old Patrick Harvey called staff at the facility around 8pm on December 29th to be signed out on an employment pass. He had a listed return time of 7am the next day, but he failed to come back to the facility.

Harvey was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2:45 Friday afternoon and charged with Absence From Custody. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one additional year in jail.

Harvey was also captured in 2018 after escaping from the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale.

Iowa City Police were called to an address on Shamrock Place at 7pm on December 21st of that year for a harassment call. Police say during the investigation Harvey gave the name “Patrick Cristens”. Harvey allegedly told investigators he needed to get something from inside the residence, then fled out the back door.

Officers returned to the Shamrock Place residence at 11pm that night and could see Harvey inside. When questioned, he again allegedly gave the name “Patrick Cristens”, and again attempted to flee. This time, he was caught after a brief foot chase.

Officers were eventually able to determine Harvey’s true identity, discovering he was wanted as an escapee from the IMCC. Charges of Providing False Identification Information and Interference with Official Acts were later dismissed.

Harvey was also convicted of Absence From Custody in April of 2018 and was sentenced to community service.
