Coralville Police say a man damaged an apartment after he was kicked out.
24-year-old Nathaniel Whitfield of 9th Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 1:30 Saturday morning. Arrest records indicate Whitfield was asked to leave a 20th Avenue apartment around 3:15pm on New Year’s Eve after he threatened to slap a woman inside. Whitfield initially left, but police say he came back and tried to kick in the door of the apartment, causing it to crack. He also allegedly tried to throw a bench through one of the apartment’s windows.
Whitfield later admitted to kicking in the door, which cost an estimated $400 to replace. He’s charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Harassment and 4th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
