A man who attacked a security guard with a knife during a robbery at Coral Ridge Mall has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
The sentence was handed down by Judge Paul Miller on Friday as part of a plea deal. 19-year-old John Greb of Wind Ridge Drive agreed to plead guilty to a 2nd Degree Robbery charge in exchange for other charges being dropped. If convicted on the original charges of 1st Degree Robbery, Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury, Interference with Official Acts and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Greb could have faced over 30 years in prison.
Greb must serve at least 50% of the ten-year sentence.
Coralville Police say Greb used a knife to assault and injure a security guard during a robbery attempt at Target just before 5:30pm on April 20th, 2019.
Greb was eventually apprehended in the nearby pedestrian tunnel under Interstate 80 after a brief foot chase. He was covered in blood, and was found in possession of a bloody knife. A search of Greb’s person turned up several baggies containing Adderall, as well as a pipe with residue believed to be used for smoking marijuana.
