A transient has been charged in connection with a pair of unrelated alcohol-related incidents.
Iowa City Police were called to CVS Pharmacy on Muscatine Avenue just before 5pm Thursday for two men stealing a bottle of liquor. Surveillance video showed 51-year-old Charles McDile Jr. and an accomplice purchase a bottle of liquor while concealing a second bottle and leaving the store. Investigators captured McDile across the street at the Eden Apartments, where he was found with the stolen bottle of Fleischmann’s vodka, valued at $14.99. He and the accomplice allegedly admitted to being inside CVS and paying for only one bottle of liquor.
McDile was also charged for his part in a fight the previous day on Highland Avenue. Police say McDile was found bleeding from the mouth, which he indicated was from fighting another man just after 2:15pm. That man was bleeding from the face, and he said McDile had been fighting him. The two continued charging at each other to continue the altercation, and had to be separated by officers multiple times.
McDile showed multiple signs of intoxication and was unsteady on his feet. Between the two incidents, he’s charged with 5th Degree Theft, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He faces a maximum of 90 days in jail if convicted on all charges.
Arrest records list McDile as both a transient and a resident of Davenport.
