Robbery charges have been dismissed against one of three Cincinnati men charged in connection with a robbery at the Tiffin rest area on Interstate 80.
Court records show a 2nd Degree Robbery charge against 48-year-old Jerry Chandler Junior was dismissed last week. Chandler was one of three men accused of robbing an out-of-state man at the westbound Tiffin rest area on July 30th. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s office, one of the suspects told the robbery victim that he had just won the lottery, and could double his money. After the victim provided the suspect with approximately $2,500, the two other suspects restrained him while the other walked away.
The alleged victim was travelling through Iowa, but does not live in the state. The suspects were captured a short time later near the North English exit in Iowa County.
Also charged in the case are 35-year-old Adam Smith and 40-year-old Robert Chandler. Court records show Smith skipped an arraignment hearing last month, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
2nd Degree Robbery is a Class C Felony punishable by a maximum of ten years in prison.
