Production employees at the Quaker Oats plant in Cedar Rapids have ratified a contract, locking in wage increases and other benefits after a final day of negotiations between the union and management Thursday.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the four-year contract was ratified following three votes, and includes a ten percent wage increase over the term, and a signing bonus for workers. Provisions for overtime and holiday hours, a sticking point earlier this week, were ironed out.
The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union also represents employees at the General Mills plant, where workers ratified their contract early Friday. They had voted down management’s offer on Wednesday and were due to strike next week before the two sides started meeting again Thursday.
