Tuesday was the first election with combined city and school elections, as mandated by the state of Iowa, and there were several contested races in Johnson County.
Iowa City City Council winners included Janice Weiner and Laura Bergus, who defeated Megan Alter.
Coraville City Council winners included Mitch Gross and Jill Dodds, who won over Sandra J. Alvira Roman.
The North Liberty City Council race saw Brent Smith, RaQuisha Harrington and Chris Hoffman defeat Matthew Eckhardt and Michael Nicholls.
Solon City Council winners included Daniel P. O’Neil and John D. Farlinger.
Steve Berner won the Tiffin mayor’s race, while Christine Olney and Rodney D. Walls won the city’s city council race.
University Heights City Council winners included Casey Cook, Bobby Scott, Sara O’Sullivan, Doug Swailes and Liesa Moore.
School board races saw Charlie Eastham, Lisa C. Williams, Paul Roesler and Shawn Eyestone win in the Iowa City Community School District.
Clear Creek Amana School Board winners were Eileen Schmidt and Matt McAreavy.
In the Solon school District, Adam Haluska and Jami Wolf won election.
And Joseph Williams and Joel Yedlik won seats on the Lone Tree school board.
There were other ballot initiatives as well. The Solon Hotel/Motel Tax passed with 63% of the vote.
The Clear Creek Amana School District Revenue Purpose Statement passed with 83% voter approval.
The Tiffin and Oxford Library Levies passed with 56% and 68% approval, respectively.
In Hills, the LOSST Revenue Purpose measure passed with 69% of the vote.
