The University of Iowa Dance Marathon’s “Day to DM” fundraiser set a lofty fundraising goal of $500,000. Turns out, they could have reached even higher.

In a 26.2-hour span that ended a little after 9pm Wednesday night, the organization raised $602,516.93, easily surpassing their goal and going over last year’s total of $482,578.34.

Throughout the fundraiser, phone calls, emails, and in-person requests for support were made to benefit the University of Iowa’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital, particularly the kids fighting pediatric cancer on the 11th floor of the hospital.

Dance Marathon raises funds throughout the year, leading to the Big Event at the Iowa Memorial Union. This year’s festivities are set for February 7-8, and the Dance Marathon has raised over $27.5 million for the Stead Family Children’s Hospital in its first 25 years.
