The US Environmental Protection Agency formally announced the deletion of a Cedar Rapids Superfund site from their National Priorities List Tuesday.

The EPA totally deleted the Electro-Coatings Inc. site, and in a release from the agency says the action signals that “they are ready for reuse while remaining protective of human health and the environment.

The EPA deletes sites or parts of the sites from the Priorities List when no further cleanup is required to protect human health or the environment.

The ElectroCoatings Site, located at the north edge of Cedar Lake and the east edge of the Cedar River, was flagged in 1976, when an unknown amount of chromic acid leaked from a deteriorated wastewater pit. State investigators issued an executive order in June 1977 to install new monitoring wells.

The US EPA got involved in 1988.

The release also announced the partial deletion of the Shaw Avenue Dump Site in Charles City.
