A University of Iowa student was arrested early Friday morning after a stealing a doormat from a downtown Iowa City restaurant.
Iowa City Police observed 22-year-old Tyler Hirsch running across Burlington Street southbound on South Lucas Street, within a block of his apartment, just after 2:15am. Hirsch was carrying a doormat, which he dropped as soon as he saw the officers. Hirsch was found hiding under a parked car after a brief foot chase.
Hisrch showed multiple signs of intoxication. His blood alcohol content was measured at .182.
The doormat was recovered and was found to have a logo for Quentin’s on East Washington Street. Hirsch admitted to stealing the doormat about three hours earlier.
Hirsch pleaded guilty to charges of 5th Degree Theft, Public Intoxication, Littering and Interference with Official Acts. He was fined $380.
