A Shelter House resident assaulted an employee at the nearby Hy-Vee last week.

Iowa City Police say the victim was performing job-related duties in the parking lot of the Waterfront Hy-Vee just after 6:45 last Wednesday night when 49-year-old Jonathan Rich grabbed her from behind by the shoulders and shook her. He also grabbed her wrists and ignored her pleas to go away and let her do her job. Police say this was not the first time Rich has grabbed the woman against her will.

Rich showed multiple signs of intoxication upon officers’ arrival. He was arrested and charged with Assault and Public Intoxication. Court records show Rich pleaded guilty and was fined $65.

Court records show Rich was charged with felony Domestic Abuse Assault last July and was sentenced to community service.
