An Iowa City man who allegedly threatened a man whose residence he entered without permission was allegedly found with multiple prescription drugs upon arrest.
Police say they were dispatched to the 1000 block of Benton Drive on report of a fight Wednesday just before 11:30pm. A man matching the description of the reporting party was identified as 25-year-old Mitchell Mills, who lists his current address as Shelter House.
Mills was inside a residence without permission and was asked to leave when located. When he went outside, he confronted a man who followed him out of the residence. That’s when police say Mills pulled out a pocketknife, unfolded it, and threatened to kill the man while pointing the weapon at him.
Upon arrival, authorities observed Mills in the area of a female who appeared to have been assaulted and was laying on the ground. He fled from officers and was apprehended after a short chase. During the chase, Mills jettisoned a black backpack that was in his possession.
The bag was recovered, and an ensuing search found several prescription drugs that Mills reportedly advised were not his. They include Naltrexone, Gabapenlin, Remron, Zofram, Seroquel, and Venlafaxine,. A glass meth pipe with meth residue was also located.
Mills was arrested and charged with six counts of possession of a prescription drug, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, First Degree Harassment, Interference with Official Acts, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Mills could be sentenced to over ten years in prison.
