A Cedar Rapids has pleaded guilty to charges that he stole his girlfriend’s car in Coralville and kidnapped her child.

Coralville Police say that on the afternoon of March 5th 33-year-old Justin Anderson of 18th Street Northwest took the keys to his girlfriend’s Dodge Journey without permission and used it to pick up the woman’s seven-year-old child from school. Anderson then refused to give the child back, and lied to police about his whereabouts.

Anderson was eventually arrested at the Hy-Vee Gas Station on the Coralville Strip. He was charged with 3rd Degree Kidnapping and Operating a Vehicle Without Owners’ Consent. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.

Anderson entered a guilty plea Friday in Johnson County court. Terms of the plea deal and a sentencing date have not been released.
