Driving with a dangerously high blood alcohol content has led to a Coralville man’s arrest.
Coralville Police received a call about a vehicle driving with a flat tire from 12th Avenue to Olinger Drive just after 9:30 Saturday morning. An officer pulled the vehicle over as it was driving southbound on 12th Avenue near 9th Street. The driver, 49-year-old Dwight Huedepohl, said he was trying to “limp” the car to his home on 8th Avenue.
Huedepohl’s behavior was described as unusual, including extreme arm movements. A portable Breathalyzer test registered his BAC at .350…more than four times the legal limit for driving. A later Datamaster test showed it as .354.
An online chart from Virginia Tech University shows that a BAC between .3 and .4 could lead to central nervous system depression, stupor, and a slight possibility of death.
Huedepohl was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense. He has a previous OWI conviction from 2012.
