More information is being learned about a 2019 City High graduate who died in an auto accident in Vancouver Canada.
The Vancouver Sun reports that John Geerdes was killed when a charter bus carrying 45 students and two teaching assistants crashed into a ditch on a gravel logging road between the communities of Port Alberni and Banfield late Friday.
Geerdes has four siblings including a sister at City High. He was enrolled at the University of Victoria.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say an 18-year old woman from Winnipeg was also killed in the crash, which injured over a dozen other students. A spokeswoman for the University of Victoria said one student remained in hospital on Monday. She added that students from the school have been taking field trips to the Banfield Marine Science Centre for nearly two decades, and the bus was on the way to the Centre when it crashed.
The Mounties say they are still investigating the cause of the crash and will review the statements of over 40 people who were at the scene.
