Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say participated in an illegal dice game earlier this summer.

Officers were investigating reports of subjects rolling dice at 1102 Hollywood Boulevard just after 9:30pm on July 31st. Investigators observed several subjects playing dice and exchanging money on the sidewalk. The subjects fled when officers approached, including 20-year-old Leroy Dix, address unknown. Police called out to Dix by name, but he allegedly continued fleeing into a nearby apartment.

Dix was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5pm Friday and charged with 4th Degree Illegal Gaming or Betting. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail. He was also charged in connection with another dice game at the same location on August 3rd.

Dix made news in 2017 when he and four other people were arrested for their alleged part in an attack on four people in the 500 block of South Gilbert Street, jumping two people and punching and kicking them. They also allegedly tried to snatch a woman’s purse before assaulting her and assaulting a male, holding him down so they could go through his pockets. Charges of Participating in a Riot and two counts of 3rd Degree Robbery were later dismissed by the court. Dix is currently awaiting a Monday sentencing after pleading guilty to drug charges stemming from a March 2018 arrest in connection with a reported riot on the 800 block of East College Street.

1102 Hollywood Boulevard has been the subject of recent calls to police about dice games, shots fired, and dozens of subjects armed with baseball bats and shovels gathering to fight.
