A former Iowa and NFL football player has been arrested following a bar fight in downtown Iowa City.
Iowa City Police say they observed 26-year-old Riley McCarron and another man involved in a physical altercation outside Joe’s Place on Iowa Avenue just before 2am Saturday. When officers attempted to intervene McCarron allegedly walked away, ignoring their commands to stop. He then allegedly began running before he was stopped by officers.
McCarron allegedly admitted to drinking “too much” and refused post-arrest breath testing.
McCarron is charged with Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 90 days in jail.
McCarron played wide receiver for Iowa from 2013-2016. He also had brief stints with the NFL’s Houston Texans and New England Patriots.
