A man who has a long list of run-ins with the law has been arrested for an incident that occurred on a Saturday night in downtown Iowa City.
Police say that at about 11pm on August 24th, 25-year-old Dequan Miles, address unknown, approached a woman who was walking with friends near the Airliner on South Clinton Street, and asked her if she wanted to have sex with him, using the f-word. The woman said no and tried to ignore Miles.
Miles continued to walk near the woman and said that she would be the first white girl he effed. Again, the woman tried to ignore Miles but he slapped her on the butt. The woman then entered Pints and told police that she felt threatened, hurt and embarrassed by the attack.
An investigation determined that Miles assaulted the woman, who with a witness, picked him out of a photo line-up.
A check of online court records shows over three dozen incidents involving Miles, with charges ranging from reckless bicycle riding to harassment and disorderly conduct. He was located and arrested early Monday morning.
This time, Miles was charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years.
