A Muscatine man was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to sexually assault a woman he met just three days ago on social media.

According to police, 29-year-old Bin Lu of Spinning Wheel Court and the woman met on a social networking app approximately three days prior. They arranged a meeting, and Lu picked her up from her home and took her to the Radisson in Coralville, where he had reserved a room Sunday night.

Once inside the room, Lu is accused of making sexual advances to the woman several times. She tried to leave as she was in fear and didn’t want to have sex with Lu, but he stood between her and the door and physically restrained her, preventing her from leaving.

The woman told authorities she felt like Lu was going to rape her. He told her to get on the bed after shutting off all the lights, and attempted to start touching her by rubbing her shoulders. She was able to escape the hotel room and ran to the front desk asking for help.

Lu is accused of chasing after the woman, causing her to hide behind the front desk.

Police found several condoms in Lu’s possession.

He’s been charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and false imprisonment. If convicted on the charges, Lu could be sentenced to a maximum of three years in prison.
