The University of Iowa is not enforcing a moving expense reimbursement stipulation included in the recent hire of TaJuan Wilson.
Wilson, who was appointed in June as the Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, submitted his resignation Thursday.
In a news release, Wilson announced that the position he leaves “will be wonderful for the right person, but it is not the right fit for me at this time.”
The Cedar Rapids Gazette is reporting that Wilson’s offer letter stipulated that 100 percent of a $25,000 “transition allowance” was to be paid back if he left the position within the first year of employment. However, UI spokeswoman Anne Bassett told the paper that the university agreed to waive the repayment of moving expenses.
Wilson announced that he will be working on special projects with the vice president for external relations over the next five and a half months, while looking for a new opportunity. It’s unclear whether that opportunity will be in the University of Iowa community or elsewhere. He will continue to earn his $224,000 salary in his new role.
