Allegedly knocking a woman into unconsciousness has led to a North Liberty man’s arrest.

42-year-old Kurt Mathes was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 11pm Thursday. North Liberty Police were called to Mathes’ Ranshaw Way residence just after 8:30pm for a trespassing complaint. Arriving officers noticed a woman who had suffered several injuries, including large bumps on her head and a swollen eye. The woman said she incurred the injuries when Mathes attacked her, and at one point she lost consciousness and woke up on the floor.

Mathes admitted to assaulting the woman. While being interviewed, a white, powdery substance was seen on the kitchen table. Mathes admitted that it was cocaine, and a small baggie of cocaine was also found on his person.

Mathes is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of two years in prison.
