A former employee who is suing Johnson County for issues relating to her termination has dropped current and former members of the Board of Supervisors from her suit.
The Gazette reports that supervisors Lisa Green-Douglas, Rod Sullivan and Janelle Rettig have been dropped from the suit, filed in 2018 by Shanti Sellz. She has dropped her claims of discrimination and defamation, though several other claims remain.
Sellz was the county’s local food and planning coordinator and claims that her supervisor, Josh Busard spoke in a loud aggressive tone and lunged at her when she brought up the subject of flex time off in May of 2017.
She alleges that following that incident, she began experiencing physical and mental stress. The next month, a medical practitioner approved medial leave. She sought more time off from the Family Medical Leave Act after her sick leave expired.
The practitioner filled out the paperwork for the FMLA, and later that day Sellz received a “pre-termination” letter from Busard for excessive use of sick leave and not using proper channels to report sick leave.
Her termination was upheld by the Board of Supervisors that October.
Sellz’ suit names Busard and the County, and claims assault, retaliation, violation of due process and violation of the Family Medical Leave Act. She also claims she was a whistleblower.
