IC man arrested after throwing glass plate at girlfriend’s head

An Iowa City man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after allegedly threatening his girlfriend.
Police say they were dispatched to the Bon Aire Mobile Home Park at approximately 3:20pm for a verbal domestic incident between 60-year-old Scott Maher and his girlfriend. Upon arrival, they met with the woman, who was crying and shaking in the living room.
She showed police recordings she had made made Friday and Saturday of Maher stating that he was going to “effing kill” her and that he was going to “burn her down.” Another video showed Maher holding a large home-made machete and threatening the woman with it.
Sunday, Maher’s accused of throwing a glass plate, barely missing the head of the woman and hitting the window behind her. The officer observed the broken window and the broken plate on the floor.
In an interview with authorities. Maher allegedly admitted that he had threatened the woman’s life several times and truly wanted to kill her. The two have been in a romantic relationship for the last year and a half and live together.
Maher was arrested and charged with first degree Harassment and Domestic Abuse Assault. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 25 months in prison.
