An Iowa City man is facing a host of charges stemming from a beer theft.
Arrest reports indicate that 34-year-old Michael Cintron Caceres was at the HyVee on Waterfront Drive April 21st at approximately 11:45pm when he selected two cases of Bud Light and Coors Light, put them in a shopping cart, and walked out without paying for them. The theft was caught on store surveillance.
Last Saturday morning, an officer came upon Cintron Caceres as he was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle on the 2200 block of Davis Street. He asked for Cintron Caceres’ ID but he replied that he didn’t have one and gave his name as Javier.
When asked to come out of the vehicle, he climbed over the center console and sped away in the car. He stopped after a half block and fled on foot. He was located hiding in a garage in the 1100 block of Hollywood Boulevard about a half hour later.
Officers called him out of the garage, but Cintron Cacares opened the door and tried to run past them, instantly swinging at them in the process. Officers disengaged from him and another foot chase ensued. A taser was used to subdue Cintron Caceres, but he continued to swing at officers and had to be tased again until placed into handcuffs.
He was taken into custody and charged with 2 counts of Interference with Official Acts, Assault on persons in Certain Occupations, and 5th degree theft. If convicted on all counts, Citron Caceres could be sentenced to up to 15 months in prison.
