A rural Iowa City man accused of having sex with a child has been sentenced to five years in prison.
19-year-old Wilian Ramirez will also be placed on the Iowa sex offender registry for ten years, he must enter a sex offender program, and he is to have no contact with the victim.
Ramirez reached a plea deal with prosecutors in March. He was initially charged with 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse, a Class C Felony punishable by a maximum of ten years in prison. As part of the plea deal that charge was reduced to Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse Causing Bodily Injury
Ramirez, of the Breckenridge Estates manufactured housing community on Taft Avenue SE, was arrested last June after a 12 or 13-year-old child at Twain Elementary School reported having sex with him. Police say Ramirez admitted to having sex with the child.
