IC City Council to discuss hiring retail recruitment firm

City Councilors at tonight’s meeting in Iowa City will be discussing the possibility of hiring a retail recruitment firm to fill some vacancies in city buildings.
The city is looking at spending $45,000 to contract the Retail Strategies company to develop a market analysis of the city, identify unmet retail needs, enhance the city’s marketability to potential retailers, and recruit retailers and restaurants to Iowa City.
Economic Development Coordinator Wendy Ford says that this would be a long-term relationship with the company, and they would represent Iowa City at regional and national retail conferences.
One of the main vacancies the city would like to see filled is the open space at the Iowa City Marketplace that was once the home of Lucky’s Market. The retailer closed their only Iowa location there in March.
