Throgmorton announces he won’t seek reelection

Iowa City Mayor Jim Throgmorton has announced that he will not seek reelection.
In a press release, the Mayor said that he ran four years ago to help lead Iowa City toward becoming a more just city. He said, “We have made great strides in that direction over the past three-plus years, and much more remains to be done. I would like to have a hand in crafting our next steps, but there are other factors I must consider.”
Those factors include some health issues, the desire to spend more time with his family, and giving the City Council the chance to have a younger makeup.
His term as mayor expires at the end of the year.
