Officials say three people were sent to the hospital following a crash on Highway 1 which temporarily closed the highway.

The Iowa State Patrol says a Suburu Outback was headed northbound when it crossed the centerline for unknown reasons as it approached Dillons Furrow Road – about 2.5 miles south of Solon – a little before 5:30 a.m. Friday. That vehicle then struck a southbound Mack truck being driven by Loras Phillips, 61, of Dyersville.

The state patrol says while Phillips was uninjured, all three occupants of the Outback were taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with unspecified injuries. They do not indicate if any of those in the Outback was wearing a seatbelt at the time. The state patrol says all three are between the ages of 22 and 25.

The crash remains under investigation.

Highway 1 was closed for about four hours Friday morning as officials attended to the scene.
