A Coralville woman accused of stabbing at her two young children has posted bond after a judge lowered it by nearly $30,000.

Court records show Whitney Claybon, 29, of Boston Way posted the $19,000 surety bond last week. She’s facing assault and child endangerment charges.

Judge Chad Kepros a day earlier had lowered bond from the initially-set $47,500 to $19,000 on a request for a bond review from Claybon’s attorney. She remains under the supervision of the Department of Correctional Services.

Claybon is accused of stabbing at her five- and two-year-old children at her home on Jan. 11. Witnesses told police Claybon poked at the arms and legs of the older child with a knife while he tried to crawl away from her, causing an injury to the child’s arm. She also allegedly used the knife to poke at the two-year-old’s chest and held the knife up to each child’s throat.

Police say the two-year-old was uninjured.

Claybon was admitted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on an in-patient basis following the incident, being released and taken into police custody about two weeks later.

She faces charges of Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury, Child Endangerment, and two counts of Assault With a Deadly Weapon. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up 11 years in prison.

An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for March 8.

A no-contact order has been put in place between Claybon and her children.
