A Cedar Rapids woman is accused of being high and having drugs on her when she went to pick up two children from a preschool on Monday.
An employee of the preschool called police a little before 5 p.m. after allegedly smelling marijuana on Denise Fountain, 33, as she was picking up two children from the facility on McCollister Boulevard. A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy eventually located Fountain’s vehicle and says he also smelled marijuana inside the vehicle.
Police say she had the two children with her and tried to conceal two small baggies of marijuana inside of the children’s backpack when stopped by police.
Additionally, Fountain’s barred from driving until September 2021 for being a habitual offender.
Fountain was taken into custody on charges of Child Endangerment, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving While Barred. If convicted on all charges, she could be sentenced to up to five years in jail.
